General InformationThe Woodland Sites being offered may be suitable for leisure use or some sensitive development. The land is not zoned for development though temporary structures are normally permitted. However, planning permission may be possible in the future and so the plots offer an interesting long term investment in an increasingly popular area which has relatively easy access but is still far from the 'madding crowd'.
The surrounding land is controlled by the Scottish Woodland Association, a conservation body, and will be preserved in its natural state. The number of mature trees varies from plot to plot; some have very few while others are more densely wooded. Some plots may benefit from recent (1992) planting with Spruce. |
Keil Wood:Keil Wood, photographed below looking east, is amenity woodland situated on the Eastern side of beautiful Loch Linnhe with fine views of the hills opposite from various parts of the wood. The trees are mainly young oak, beech and silver birch and some naturally regenerating hazel and other young broadleaves. Some areas of Sitka Spruce were planted in 1992 and these small plantations are maturing. It is a very peaceful retreat for relaxing and pursuing forestry as a hobby. There are camping areas in the sheltered middle of the wood around a small lochan and a path links and winds through the oak and younger areas providing extensive internal access. At 50m above sea level, the aspect is from the north through the west round to the south, and the land is well drained with sufficiently deep soils on top of rock ensuring good tree growth. To the south a fast flowing burn tumbles through the woodland and to the north is Glencoe. Red deer browse, red squirrel forage and diverse bird life and flora flourish in the vicinity. Moist grasses, ferns, bluebells, wild strawberries and brambles seasonally carpet the undergrowth.
Access:Is via either of two hard stone private tracks leading off the A828 over which there are legal all-purpose vehicular right of access. There are shared rights of access within Keil Wood with the main access from the eastern track. Further internal access is via several entry points linked by a useful path through the open middle of Keil Wood. Although there may not be a track leading to your plot at present, each plot owner has the right to maintain and improve all tracks.
